Our Mandate Founded in 1993, the Avenue Road Arts School provides people of all ages with high-quality visual and performing arts instruction in a relaxed and supportive environment. 
Philosophy
We offer a wide range of courses during the fall, winter and spring. Preschool Performers, Toddler Arts, Kinder Arts, After School & Weekend Arts Programs and Adult Arts Programs all happen under the same roof. We provide special programs and camps during the March Break and Summer periods, as well as an innovative corporate creativity program, Beyond the Box™. Our sister charity, Arts for Children of Toronto, provides high-quality arts experiences to children, regardless of their financial circumstances. We all have good stuff, inside us. The faculty of the Avenue Road Arts School is especially skilled at bringing that good stuff, out. At the School you are given the opportunity to pursue a real passion, to re-ignite your creativity and to get lost in the intense focus of making art. It's a time to experience the sense of accomplishment that comes from developing skills under the guidance of inspiring teachers. Many new friendships are formed as people return to classes year after year. The pleasure of immersing yourself in the creative process is enhanced by doing it with like-minded people from all walks of life in the warm, congenial environment that the School provides. We are a community of people who love the creative process – a group that includes complete novices and more advanced artists, in classes geared to every level of ability for both children and adults. The Avenue Road Arts School is known for its consistent, top quality creative programs. Lesson plans and teaching approaches are monitored on a regular basis to ensure that every student can count on having a valuable experience. And because of the small class sizes, everyone gets a great deal of individual attention. In all of our classes, imaginations and individual choices are validated and supported. At the same time, skills are developed in a carefully planned sequence. Children and adults alike leave their classes with smiles on their faces – smiles that come from meeting the challenge of going through several steps to create a result that often surprises them. What makes the Avenue Road Arts School such a great arts and theatre school? It's a question we get asked a lot. Simply put, it's the incredible people, young and old, who walk through our doors and the unique spaces that the doors lead them into. The charming Victorian home that houses the School draws us in and embodies a sense of creativity. Children love exploring the interesting spaces and instantly love the magical feel of the house. Adults enjoy how the comfortable and supportive feel of the space makes it safe to try something new, to take chances and to escape the stress of busy lives. The staff and teachers have established a sense of community - one dedicated to quality of service. They all love what they are doing - and it shows. They are committed to creating the best arts school in the city. We have talented students – many of our adult students have been at the School since 1993. Younger children follow in the footsteps of siblings, and teens are delighted to see instructors who taught them when they were 3 years old. Your families have become part of our little community. In our recent survey, the overwhelming response to the question – "how did you hear about the school?" was "by word of mouth. " It is our students who recruit their friends and family. What a great form of advertising! The School brings out the best in our students and our students bring out the best in the School.
