Advanced Theatre Commitment
Companies run September 11/08-June 12/09 and are
year-long commitments.
Closer to show dates, rehearsals may fall
on days other than the designated class day. Parents must determine
if they and their child are able to make this commitment. Rehearsal
and performance attendance will be mandatory. Acceptance will
be based on a scheduled interview/audition. See more information about

General Theatre Program Information
- The theatre programs offer young acting enthusiasts an opportunity
to learn theatre skills at an advanced level with a focus on
a semi-professional work ethic. Students must be aware of the program
expectations and code of conduct (PDF) .
- The theatre programs are full-year commitments
from September 11, 2008 to June 12, 2009. Please be advised
that we observe all statutory holidays and school breaks. See
all holiday dates in our Important
Dates section.
- Casts will perform at a professional theatre venue in Toronto,
before a live audience.
- Theatre rehearsal and performance attendance is mandatory.
- Extra rehearsal times may be scheduled, with notice, throughout
the year.
- Acceptance to our theatre programs for kids and teens is based
on a scheduled audition/interview.
- There will be a maximum of 16 students accepted in the ARAS
Young Company and 20 students in the ARAS Musical Theatre Company
program.
- Payments for the ARAS Musical Theatre Company and Young Company
programs can be made in three installments. Details will be available
upon acceptance into the theatre program.

When are the theatre auditions?
For ARAS Musical Theatre Company & ARAS Musical Theatre Company Junior:
Auditions will be booked by appointment only. Please allow at least a half
hour for your theatre audition/interview. You will also be required to attend
the dance call on the same day of your audition – you will be advised
of this time when you book your audition.
For ARAS Young Company:
Auditions will be booked by appointment only. Please allow at least 30 minutes
for your theatre audition/interview.

Who is eligible for the Program?
- The programs are for young actors and singers in Grades 8-12
(ARAS Musical Theatre Company), Grades 4-7 (ARAS Musical Theatre
Company Junior) and Grades 5-9 (ARAS Young Company).
- The theatre programs are designed for students who are serious
about learning the skills required to perform in theatre, and
can make the commitment to attend classes, rehearsals and performances
every week.
- Previous experience is not necessary.
- Acceptance is based on an audition/interview.
What do I need to do to get into the Program?
- Arrange for an audition/interview. At that point a package
with materials to study will be mailed out.
- Learn and work on the monologue, which you have chosen, provided
in your audition package. Monologues must be memorized.
- Learn and work on a song (32 bars), which you have chosen,
from the list provided in your audition package. Songs must be
memorized. Children will be expected to sing a cappella or provide
their own accompaniment on CD. (ARAS Musical Theatre Company
only)
- A parent must attend the theatre audition/interview with the
child.
What will happen in the audition/interview?
- You will be asked to present your monologue. Side coaching
and direction will take place through the performance of the
monologue.
- You will be asked to do some improvisational exercises around
your monologue. (You may be asked to do some group exercises)
- You will be asked to sing your song. (ARAS Musical Theatre
Company only)
- You will be taught a short choreographed dance piece and expected
to perform the choreography on your own and/or possibly in a
group. (ARAS Musical Theatre Company only)
- You and your parent will be asked a few questions about why
you would like to be in the program and, if accepted, what your
commitment to the program would be.
