EDO owner Barry Chaim and ARAS founder, Lola Rasminsky, are longtime friends – but it was only this winter that they came up with the idea of collaborating on a project. For the next five months, EDO will adorn its walls with the wonderful work of the Arts School's faculty. The work is for sale and the proceeds will benefit the Arts Scholarship program. During this period, EDO is offering a 10% discount to any student or faculty member from the Avenue Road Arts School. If you are interested in taking advantage of this offer, please come to the school office to receive a special certificate, entitling you to a discounted meal.
EDO is located at 484 Eglinton Avenue West, a few blocks west of Avenue Road. EDO chef, Ryo Ozawa won the 2002 Canadian Culinary Cup sponsored by the Canadian Embassy in Japan. This past January, food critic for the Globe & Mail, Joanne Kates said: "If one is going to try Japanese Wagyu beef, EDO is the place to go." For more information on EDO, visit their website: edosushi.com. Survey Winners Announced: Three lucky ARAS students have won gift certificates to EDO and to the Avenue Road Arts School – just for filling out our school surveys this past winter term. Congratulations to Madeleine Kennedy, Joan Cookson and Fran Woodrooffe.
On June 18 & 19, the Avenue Road Arts School will celebrate the accomplishments of its adult students at the 2nd Annual Adult Student Exhibit entitled: 460 Degrees of the Avenue Road Arts School.
The show, which will be held at The Women's Art Association Gallery at 23 Prince Arthur Avenue, will feature the work of both novice and more accomplished artists and will include drawings, portraits, figure paintings, landscapes, abstracts, watercolours and ceramic sculptures. The works on display will have been created under the guidance of ARAS's professional and supportive faculty and all students who are registered in a spring '08 class are encouraged to submit a piece for exhibit consideration. Adult students come from across the GTA. They choose to study at the Arts School because of the diversity in programming, the high quality instruction, and the friendly and unique feeling of the Victorian house. Attend the June 18th reception at the Women's Art Association Gallery. Get more information in the Upcoming Events area. On February 24, the Arts School spent the afternoon with the Toronto Marlies Team. Faculty members, Rachel McQuillan, Susie Whaley, Madeleine Domingue and Nicola Wismer provided intermission fun for all the children attending the game at the Ricoh Centre by creating Marlie Mascot Masks. The work of many of our adult students was on display earlier this March at the Toronto Art Expo at the Metro Convention Centre from March 6-9. The Arts School's booth was attended by thousands of visitors who were very impressed with the calibre of the student work. From March 29-30 at the Toronto Congress Centre, the art work of some of our child and teen students was on display at the T.O. Kid's Show. Staff & faculty were on hand at the booth to help visiting children create a unique art piece to take with them. Check our Upcoming Events page frequently for event updates throughout the year. ![]() Multi-talented Jennifer Gould has been nominated for a Juno Award for Best Children's Album of the Year.
