Painting the Portrait is an immersive ten-week course designed for both beginners and those with some prior experience. This course focuses on helping students achieve their personal goals and objectives in portrait painting, ranging from fundamental principles to applying expressive techniques. Through the use of reference images, students will learn to capture the characteristic qualities of their subjects. The course emphasizes essential technical skills that are key in portrait painting, such as anatomy, proportion, colour theory, value, form and shape. Throughout the course, various methods of painting portraits will be explored, through post impressionism to modern art history, that will inspire approaches in the course while embracing your own approach.
