Visual Arts Parties for Kids
Children create a landscape scene using pastels and markers and then bring it to life by gluing various types of papers and materials onto a foam-core box. The scene is finished off with model magic insects and other small creatures. Ages: 6 and up.
Create a family crest or a mythical landscape! Using oil pastels, permanent markers and tempera paints children transform a piece of fabric paper into a magical scene. Once the jewels and foamy shapes have been glued on the banner is ready to hang up on your wall or bedroom door.
Become a bird, a lion, or any magical creature from your imagination! Using a simple paper plate, pastels and tempera paint, partygoers create a mask. The project is completed with the addition of foamy shapes, jewels, feathers and decorative papers.
Decorate your very own mirror. Paste metallic papers and tissue paper onto a foam-core frame, then finish your piece with pastels and metallic markers.
Children assemble a self-portrait using various types of papers, fabric, pastels and foamy shapes. Once the portrait is made they will decorate a foam-core frame.
Create your very own instrument! Decorate your rainstick with pipe cleaners, decorative papers, pastels, metallic markers and jewels. Children will finish their project by beading a pipe cleaner handle. (*To incorporate beading children must be over 5 years old.)
Space Aliens from Mars
Children transform a simple tube into a space shuttle using pastels, tempera paint, foamy shapes and metallic papers. Kids form their alien out of model magic and bring it to life using markers and googily eyes.
Design your very own wings! Children will decorate a pre-cut set of wings with oil pastels and tempera paint. They will then embellish their creation with coloured papers, jewels and metallic markers.
Make a wish and get ready to create your wand! Children decorate a piece of bristol board with markers, foamy shapes, feathers and pieces of decorative papers. The final touch is added when children take a piece of model magic and decorate it with markers and jewels.
Visual Arts Experiences for Adults
You will first learn some loose drawing techniques, which will then transform into a fun, abstract-based self-portrait, influenced by the painting style of Pablo Picasso. There will be plenty of opportunities to bring personalized and imaginative aspects to your work. No previous drawing or painting experience is required. All we ask is that you be prepared to laugh, keep an open mind and a willingness to dip your brush in your creativity.
INTERPRET YOUR OWN MASTERPIECE
You will explore the work of one prominent artist, and one masterpiece will be chosen as the spark to create your own interpretation of their famous piece. The instructor will lead your group through the various components that make a great work of art and encourage you to find your own flare to the piece. Replication is certainly not the goal here. Learning to look at things differently and releasing your inner creativity are the twin objectives. No previous drawing or painting experience is required. All we ask is that you be ready to laugh while keeping an open mind and a willingness to trust your instincts.
THE POP ART PHENOMENA
Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as POP ART. Check out his Campbell’s Soup Can Painting. Pop art is famously known for taking imagery from pop culture currently in use in advertising and using it to create a more artistic rendering of the object. You will briefly explore some examples of pop art and then choose your own pop-culture image to render into your own masterpiece using basic drawing and painting principles. Replication is not the goal here. Reinterpretation of the object and releasing your inner creativity are the goals. No previous drawing or painting experience is required. All we ask is that you be ready to laugh while keeping an open mind and a willingness to trust your instincts.
MIXED MEDIA & WORD ART
This mixed media-based project will incorporate words, colour, structure, paint, and found objects to create a powerful and highly unique art piece. Your instructor will introduce participants to various techniques that may include drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. Quickly, you will become confident in making choices that ultimately impact your highly personalized masterpiece. No previous drawing, painting, collage or writing experience is required. All we ask is that you be ready to laugh while keeping an open mind and a willingness to trust your instincts.
