Botanical Cyanotypes Workshop (Ages 12+)

Step into the mesmerizing world of cyanotype printing, where art and nature converge in a dance of light and shadow. In this workshop, we invite you to explore the captivating art of making botanical cyanotypes, a historical photographic process that beautifully immortalizes the delicate forms of plants and flowers in a Prussian blue print. Whether you have a background in photography or not, botanical cyanotypes invite you to revel in the unexpected beauty that emerges from the alchemy of chemistry and nature.

Over the course of the workshop, you will be introduced to the fascinating cyanotype technique, which dates back to the early 19th century using light-sensitive chemicals. The heart of this workshop lies in the botanical realm where students can embrace the beauty of nature as we experiment with a diverse array of leaves, petals, and other flora. With these treasures in hand, you'll have the perfect subjects to create your cyanotype creations.

Under the nurturing guidance of lens based artist, Jennifer Chin, you'll learn to compose your botanical arrangements, experimenting with layout and design to craft visually captivating cyanotypes. Once you've assembled your composition, the magic unfolds as sunlight touches the coated surface, leaving behind striking blue prints that echo the intricate details of each botanical specimen.

This workshop is open to artists of all levels.
