Drawing for Beginners Tuesdays

"Drawing for Beginners" is an eight-week in-person course specifically tailored for those who are new to drawing, feel apprehensive about their artistic abilities, or are simply curious about exploring this fundamental art form. Recognizing drawing as not only a foundational skill in visual arts but also a therapeutic practice that can soothe the nervous system and enhance concentration, this course welcomes students to discover their creative voices in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Inspired by the teachings of renowned drawing instructors like Betty Edwards, author of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," and Lynda Barry, a celebrated artist and educator, this course blends traditional and innovative approaches to drawing. You will be introduced to essential drawing techniques, including contour drawing, shading, and perspective, using pencil and charcoal. The course emphasizes drawing from observation, encouraging you to develop the ability to see the world with clarity and precision. Alongside observational drawing, you will also explore abstract and improvisational drawing methods, emphasizing play and experimentation as vital components of the creative process. This course is designed to help you slow down, connect with your senses, and engage deeply with the act of drawing, fostering both your artistic skills and personal growth.
