Outline

In this 12 week virtual course, you will learn all the necessary steps in how to draw a realistic portrait from your own photograph of choice while using the medium of charcoal. Before the drawing process, students will also learn the basic concepts of taking and choosing a great a reference photo to create a portrait from. Over the span of the course, concepts and fundamentals will be organized and demonstrated throughout each stage of the drawing process to ensure you understand the how and why of each technique and tool covered while drawing a portrait with charcoal. With guided demonstrations, video resources, group discussions and one to one feedback you will complete a portrait drawing that reflects your acquired understanding in materials, tools, paper types, setting up your work space, choosing an optimal image for best results, understanding light and utilising your tools that will be taught in this course.
