Painting BIG

"Painting BIG '' is an exciting two-day workshop led by artist, educator, and ARAS's Creative Director, Evan Faith Hutchinson. For those who have dreamt of creating large-scale paintings but felt unsure where to start or the pure desire to paint large, this intimate workshop will provide an exciting environment to explore BIG possibilities through paint!

In this class, you'll be introduced to techniques and approaches that will help you take the first steps toward creating large-scale compositions. Inspired by the practices and approaches of modern artists, such as Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg, Agnes Martin and Jasper Johns, Evan Faith Hutchinson's own painting practice is rooted in process-oriented approaches where she finds beauty and meditation in working with various media, effects, colours, and mixed media. Her work delves into themes of emotion and time, providing a rich context for creative exploration.

Under Evan's expert guidance, students will learn about a variety of media and explore the works of artists, both historical and contemporary, who have made their mark with large-scale paintings. This will include techniques that employ staining, scraping, smearing, both flat and textural applications of paint. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to create a large composition that reflects your unique artistic voice and process.
