Painting the Seasons: Modern to Contemporary Approaches

Painting the Seasons: Modern to Contemporary Approaches

The change of seasons and the vast landscapes that surround us have inspired artists for thousands of years. This course invites you to look at the landscape through a unique lens, drawing inspiration from impressionism, expressionism, abstract expressionism and contemporary art. Commencing in the depths of winter and finalizing the course at the dawn of spring, you will explore how to capture the qualities of nature that are reflective of the seasons. Thinking about line, shape, colour, weight, texture and composition, it will allow you to portray an essence and a feeling of the landscape. While using paint, students will be exposed to painting techniques including using various tools and their effects along with understanding the visual and emotional qualities painterly effects have. This course is not about capturing every detail or quality found within the landscape, but rather an invitation to thoughtfully and dynamically create a composition that is representative of a quality and your inner creative voice.
