Nature in Abstraction

Student practicing abstract painting techniques at Avenue Road Arts School.

Nature in Abstraction

Nature’s organic symmetry, asymmetry, colour, line and shape is a true divine design. The natural world has been a source of inspiration, a means to document time and a quest to better understand our planet for thousands of years. What we see and what surrounds us gives way for us to create from observation and imagination through the use of visual art’s study of line, shape, form and colour, inviting us to look at the world differently.

Over the span of this course, we will examine various types of natural forms as well as artists who are inspired by the natural world in creating our own work. Through drawing, painting, mixed media and printing techniques, we will use nature as a starting point to inspire our abstract compositions through various techniques and methods. While we examine and practice fundamentals in art making, we will also practice the art of letting go,  allowing for creative and experimental art practices to unfold.

*This course is open to new and returning students
