"Drawing Freely: Stroke, Line, Gesture" is a dynamic six-session course designed to inspire a more personal and expressive approach to mark-making while expanding your drawing skills through a variety of subject matter and media. Students will explore diverse drawing techniques, employing loose and gestural movement inspired by various artistic processes and practices to detailed and precise.
Throughout the course, you will learn to capture subjects quickly and directly, as well as through careful observation, employing the power of line in its many variations. A contemporary take on light and shade will enable you to create drama and mood through grayscale and the introduction of colour media using an array of materials such as graphite, conte, charcoal, chalk, and colouring pencils. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with mixing different pigments, discovering the unique possibilities each medium offers and enhancing your ability to create compelling visual effects. From drawing from still lifes and landscapes to more expressive compositions, this course invites you to play with space and proportion in a new and expressive way, helping you develop a versatile skill set that can be applied to any subject matter.
