Intermediate Watercolour Painting is a six-week course designed for intermediate to advanced students seeking to deepen their understanding of the captivating world of watercolour painting. This course offers an enriching opportunity for artists looking to refine their skills and explore more complex techniques within this delicate and expressive medium.
Throughout the course, you will delve into advanced watercolour materials, gaining insight into selecting the right paper, brushes, and paints to elevate your work. Key techniques such as glazing, layering, and mixed media applications will be emphasized, enabling you to create intricate effects, from subtle gradients to bold, vibrant washes. You’ll also enhance your knowledge of colour mixing and texture creation, focusing on the delicate balance of water and pigment crucial for achieving depth and nuance in your paintings. As you progress, you’ll tackle a diverse range of subjects, including still life, landscapes, and abstract forms, honing your ability to interpret and depict the world through the lens of watercolour. With personalized instruction, live demonstrations, and collaborative critiques, you’ll receive valuable feedback to support your artistic growth within a vibrant community of fellow artists.

Pencils for sketching
· Eraser
· Masking tape
· Masking fluid
· Paper towels
· Plastic water container
· Plastic or ceramic palette for mixing colours
· Watercolour Paint – can be blocks or tubes depending on personal preference. You’ll need a good basic set of colours as we’ll be going over mixing techniques

My basic set includes: (bring whatever colours you prefer)

· Paper – Good quality 140 lb (300 g) cold press watercolour paper as a sheet, pad or block in a size you like to work with. You can also bring hot press paper if you prefer a smooth surface
· Brushes – bring a selection of brushes designed for wet mediums. I use round brushes in sizes 2, 6, 10 and 14. I also always have a fan brush and a few flat and angled brushes on hand.
· OPTIONAL: baby wipes, tracing paper, sketching paper

For this in-person course, you are expected to bring all necessary materials detailed in the materials section specific to the course.

Please feel free to bring a notebook and pen to take notes during the class.
