In this short course, you will be invited to explore the beauty of the winter season through the art of still life. Drawing inspiration from the serene landscapes of winter forests, flat prairies, or even the simple scenes found right outside your door, this short course will guide you in capturing the essence of the season.
Students will work from photographic references and have the opportunity to forage materials from the outdoors, incorporating natural elements into their work. Martha will teach a variety of approaches, from loose, gestural sketches to more technical, detailed painting techniques. You’ll learn how to capture the colours, textures, and unique light of winter, creating compositions that reflect the depth and tranquility of the season.
Martha will demonstrate key concepts in colour theory, texture, and composition, helping students develop their skills in creating evocative winter still life art. Whether you're a beginner or experienced artist, this short course will offer you the tools and confidence to express the quiet beauty of winter through drawing and painting.
