Drawing for Beginners (Taster Course)
This course is a condensed version of our popular full-length course, Drawing for Beginners, led by Rachel Crummey, designed for those eager to dive into the world of drawing but who prefer a shorter, more intensive program. This class is perfect for beginners, the nervous, and the simply curious. Drawing can help soothe the nervous system and improve concentration, laying the foundation for a robust visual arts practice. Inspired by renowned drawing teacher Betty Edwards, author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, and MacArthur Genius artist Lynda Barry, this course encourages students to discover their own creative voices through a series of engaging exercises.
Students will gain confidence in drawing from observation and cultivate abstract and improvisational drawing techniques through play and experimentation. The curriculum includes contour drawing, shading, and coloured media using graphite, pen, and coloured pencils. This course encourages participants to slow down, connect with their senses, and observe with clarity and precision, all while experiencing the therapeutic benefits of drawing.
