A Statement from ARAS

The past few weeks have focused our attention on the heart-wrenching and unfair treatment of Black people within our community. It is important for each of us to recognize that this reality also extends to Indigenous people, and other people of color – and to step up our efforts to address and remove systemic racism that exists – wherever and whenever we see it.

At the Avenue Road Arts School, we are dedicated to educating ourselves more deeply on the issues faced by BIPOC communities. It is our responsibility to do everything in our power, in all the work that we do, to combat racism. To that end, we have hired Unlimited Reach, to coach our staff in becoming more inclusive. For more than ten years, Unlimited Reach has worked with both companies and individuals in diversity training.

We believe in the power of arts education to bring out the brightest qualities in us all. As we reflect on the role we play in building community through the arts, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment that is equitable, open, and accessible to students and teachers alike.

If you are or know talented BIPOC artists who are interested in teaching, please feel free to contact us. We are committed to providing a diverse faculty, and removing any unconscious barriers that may exist. Let's be part of the solution together.
