Watercolour Essentials for Beginners
This friendly, seven-week course with Anita Fowl is the perfect introduction to the unique joy of watercolour. In our supportive studio, this course offers a supportive environment to unearth the fundamental techniques that underpin watercolour practices. You’ll learn to prepare your paper, manage water-to-pigment ratios, and understand the behaviour of washes, glazes, and lifts. We’ll explore colour mixing and brush control, building a strong visual vocabulary that allows for both delicate detail and expressive fluidity. Through guided exercises and demonstrations, you will develop confidence in handling this versatile and often surprising medium.
This course is designed to empower you with a solid understanding of watercolour’s unique qualities, fostering an intuitive process for creative expression. You’ll gain practical skills to translate your observations and ideas into vibrant painted forms.

Paper:
- Always go for cold-pressed, 300g (140lb) watercolor paper, minimum size 9” x 12”
Palette:
