Coloured Pencil Artistry: Drawing, Blending & Texture
Slow down and discover the art of coloured pencil drawing in this virtual 4-week course with artist Deidre Wicks. You’ll explore key techniques like layering, burnishing, and mark-making to develop richly textured and vibrant works. Whether you're just beginning or refining your practice, this course offers a supportive space to deepen your skills and creative expression.
Drawing with coloured pencils is a process of building up your artwork layer by layer, developing both the surface and the skills that bring your ideas to life. In this four-week virtual course with artist Deidre Wicks, you will embark on a journey in building the foundation of your artwork through layering, blending, and mark-making techniques that nurture depth and vibrancy with coloured pencils.
Deidre will guide you intuitively through the tools and methods that bring your drawings to life: from the delicate burnishing that smooths and unifies layers, to the subtle use of cross-hatching and scumbling that adds texture and dimension. You’ll learn how to harness the power of coloured pencils to create effects that mimic the natural world-soft gradients that evoke gentle light, bold strokes that capture energy, and fine details that reveal the intricate beauty of your subjects.
This course invites you to slow down and connect deeply with your materials, understanding how each stroke contributes to the foundation of your drawing, preparing it to blossom with colour and emotion. This course is open to all levels of experience.
