Rural City: Painting en Plein Air at Evergreen Brick Works
About this course
Immerse yourself in a one-day outdoor painting experience that captures Toronto’s unique intersection of industrial heritage and resilient nature. Set within the iconic Evergreen Brick Works, this workshop invites you to step out of the traditional studio and into an environment where historic brick structures are beautifully overgrown with wild valleys and ponds. Led by Martha Johnson, a highly experienced artist celebrated for her captivating landscape and cityscape paintings en plein air, you will have the opportunity to explore the grounds and learn to translate this distinct “rural city” feeling onto canvas in your own creative style while learning from Martha’s approaches. As you paint en plein air, the session will focus on both the technical demands of outdoor light and the architectural elements that define the space. This holistic approach will naturally expand your artistic skills while deepening your appreciation for the city’s living heritage, offering a refreshing day of focused creation in the heart of the city.
Please note: There will be a designated period for a break and lunch. Students are expected to either bring their own food and refreshments or make use of the cafe on site.
