Cartooning & Comic Art
(Grade 3 - 7)
This course introduces young artists to the art of comics and cartooning with educator and published cartoonist, Dave Lapp. Through a mix of drawing, storytelling, and character development, students will learn how to craft engaging narratives, design expressive characters, and structure their own comics.
Each class will cover essential techniques such as gesture and facial expressions, dynamic composition, panel layout, and dialogue writing, giving students the tools to bring their stories to life visually. Alongside technical skills, students will explore how comics can be a powerful form of self-expression, humour, and creative problem-solving.
This course nurtures imagination, critical thinking, and artistic confidence, providing a supportive and encouraging environment where young artists can develop their personal style and storytelling abilities. Whether they dream of becoming a cartoonist or simply love to draw, this course will expand their creative skills and deepen their appreciation for visual storytelling.
