This is a class for beginners, for the terrified, and for the simply curious. Drawing can help sooth the nervous system and improve concentration. It is the foundation for visual arts practice, allowing students to discover their own creative voices. Exercises will be inspired by renowned drawing teacher Betty Edwards, author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain; as well as artist, teacher and Macarthur Genius Lynda Barry. Students will gain confidence in drawing from observation, as well as cultivating abstract and improvisational modes of drawing through play and experimentation. In this course, students will practice contour drawing, shading, and perspective, using pencil and charcoal. Students will be encouraged to slow down, connect with their senses, and observe with clarity and precision.
