Art of the Moment: Contemporary Painting is an exploration of contemporary painting styles and techniques guided by artist and educator Martha Johnson. This course is designed for both new and returning students, providing students with an in-depth study of the various facets of contemporary painting. Emphasis is directed to mark-making techniques, innovative composition, and the process of creating artworks while making use of fresh and varied subject matter. All approaches to art-making are open for students to engage with, facilitated by the instructor.

Students will delve into the essence of contemporary painting, exploring many avenues that define this artistic approach as well as exploring what contemporary painting means. Each class is designed to enhance your understanding and application of contemporary art principles that can be infused into one’s artistic practice. Students will be encouraged to find and use their unique artistic voice while being provided conceptual and technical foundation concepts. This course is centred on developing your ability to conceive and execute a painting from inception to completion, nurturing your artistic practice in the realm of contemporary art. This course is best suited for those with some painting experience.
