Artistic Liberations: Mixed Media Practices is a comprehensive program designed to expand your artistic repertoire through the exploration of various painting mediums and techniques. This course will focus on using different surfaces such as canvas paper, cradled panels, and watercolour paper, allowing you to explore how each background influences your work. With a strong emphasis on abstraction and colour, you will learn to create vibrant and dynamic compositions without delving into full-on colour theory.
Abstraction and self-expressive practices, florals, and textile patterns will serve as versatile prompts to experiment with various mediums including acrylics, watercolours, markers, and oil pastels. The intuitive approach to creativity will be a cornerstone, offering the freedom to explore and express yourself beyond traditional boundaries, embracing the art of letting go and allowing for what can be intuitively explored.

- Paint Colours (oils or acrylics): Titanium White (Large tube), Cadmium Yellow Light or Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Ultramarine Blue (Large Tube), Thalo Blue, Quinacridone Magenta or Medium Magenta, Dioxazine Purple (optional), Phthalo Green or Viridian Green, Permanent Green or Green Light (optional), Sap Green (with a strong value), Cadmium Orange or other Yellow Orange, Raw Umber (optional), Indanthrene Blue (Indigo Blue in oils - optional), Transparent Red Oxide (optional), Yellow Ochre, Ivory Black

- Watercolour paint palette or watercolour paint tubes (reference colours above)
- Disposable Palette (9x12 or larger)
- Filbert Brushes: 3, 4, 8, 10
- Flat Brushes: #3, 6, 8, 12 (Soft hair/synthetic)
- Round Brushes: #1, 2, 4 (soft hair synthetic or sable)
- 1 – 2-inch-wide house painting brush (or even wider for applying tints)
- Shapers: Princeton Catalyst White Silicone Mini-blade #4
- Brayer: 2” or 4”
- Frederix Canvas Pad 9x12 or 12x16
- Canvas, Birch or Masonite Panels (or a combination to try various surfaces)
  *Square cradled panels or boards are recommended when using a brayer
- Mixed media sketchbook (XL Canson 9”x12”)

For this in-person course, you are expected to bring all necessary materials detailed in the materials section specific to the course.

Please feel free to bring a notebook and pen to take notes during the class.
