Join ARAS’s Creative Director, Evan Hutchinson, in this immersive workshop, Winter Abstractions, where students will learn abstract techniques inspired by the raw beauty of winter. This workshop invites you to explore and experiment with various media, embracing the textures, colours, and contrasts of the season. Rather than focusing on creating a finished piece, you'll champion discovery, learning techniques that can be incorporated into your practice.
Through the use of diverse materials—paints, charcoal, mylar, tissue paper, and more—you’ll explore ways to combine textures and layers to evoke winter’s essence. Evan will guide you in creating effects inspired by ice glaciers, sparkles of light on snow, and the stark, muted palette of the winter landscape. Through intuitive mark-making and exploration, you’ll experiment with composition, pigment, and colour, discovering how to capture winter’s quiet power in abstract form.
This workshop is ideal for artists of all levels interested in exploring creative processes and learning new ways to interpret the natural world through an abstract lens.
