Solvents (FOR OIL PAINTERS):

Please bring linseed oil or walnut oil and a solvent.

Personal recommendations:  Chelsea Classical Studio FAT medium or a combo of non yellowing linseed oil (gamblin or Chelsea Classical) with either Citrus thinner from Eco-House  or Lavender Spike from Chelsea Classical

Please do not bring Liquin as it makes the paint sticky and less moveable.

Brushes:

You are welcome to bring any brushes you like but please bring the following

• #10 or #12 filbert for glazing
• #2 and #4 filbert
• ⅜ angular side loader brush
• #0 and #1 pointed rounds for details

Recommendation: Mundy blending brushes to soften the edges of my line. Available through Rosemary and Co.

Varnish:

Gamvar by Gamblin is recommended 

Support:

Recommendation: Artfex aluminium panels as they are a hard surface yet lightweight. Wood panels and canvases work well too. You are welcome to use your preferred support. 

Size: 8”x10” or 11”x14” or 16”x18” depending on your comfort level 

Gesso:

If your support is already gessoed then great. Recommended to use unprimed panels and gesso with 2 coats of liquitex white or grey gesso. 

Paints:

You are welcome to use acrylic or oil paints along with colours you may have on hand. I use a variety of Windsor and Newton, Gamblin, Micheal Harding, Vasari and Williamsburg oil paints.

Please bring the following colours:

• Titanium White
• Naples Yellow
• Lemon yellow
• Burnt Sienna
• Burnt Umber
• Alizarin Crimson
• French Ultramarine
• Phthalo blue
• Kings blue light
• Colbalt teal
• Paynes grey

Optional colours:

• Radiant turquoise
• Sevre blue
• Cobalt turquoise
• Terra rosa
• Sap green
• Pale rose blush
• Cadmium red

Palette:

Recommendation: Star-Wet palette

You can also use a resealable take away container. Keeps paints moist, but can’t be cleaned after. You may also bring whatever palette you normally use with oils.

For this in-person course, you are expected to bring all necessary materials detailed in the materials section specific to the course.

Please feel free to bring a notebook and pen to take notes during the class.

Avenue Road Arts School works in compliance with COVID-19 health and safety requirements. Although masks are not mandated at this time, we strongly encourage students to wear a mask in situations where social distancing becomes not possible.

If you are making your way by vehicle, there is Green P street parking available right in front of the building. There is also a Green P parking lot approx. 3 minute walk away located at 365 Lippincott Street. Surrounding the West side of the building, you will also find free residential parking along Manning and Palmerston as well as the intersecting side streets.
