Painting in Abstraction

ARAS Summer Virtual learning

Painting Modernism

Painting Modernism is an inspiring course led by artist and educator, Kirk Sutherland, who brings a unique perspective to his creative process through synesthesia, a blending of senses that enhances his perception of colour. This course is offered in conjunction with the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) exhibition, "Moments in Modernism," which opens on June 15th.

In this engaging course, students will explore the vibrant world of Modernism, delving into the historical figures and techniques that defined the movement. With a blend of theoretical and practical content, Kirk will guide participants through the key elements of Modernism, including colour, line, shape, brushwork, and more, translating this knowledge into their own compositions. Over the span of four weeks, this course offers a balance of theory and practice, including lectures, demonstrations, group feedback and one to one tuition.
